Course Objectives The aim of this course is to provide the theory of foundation, retaining wall and deep excavation design of civil engineering structures and guide the participial applications of foundation types to field.
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • Analyze the results of experiments in-situ.
  • Describe the principles of shallow foundations and deep foundations.
  • Compare deep foundations with shallow foundations.
  • Describe the principles of the design of retaining structures.
  • Calculate lateral earth pressures.
Course Description This course explains general information about the geotechnical properties of soils. The course covers subsurface investigations, shallow foundations, mat foundations, lateral earth pressures, retaining structures, sheet piles, braced cuts, pile foundations, drilled shafts and soil improvement techniques.
